UN Human Rights Council - Universal Periodic Review of Kenya
In May, 2010, during a process called Universal Periodic Review, the UN Human Rights Council will review Kenya's fulfillment of its human rights obligations and commitments under all of the international human rights treaties it has ratified.
Together with its partners, Africa Union of the Blind, Kenya Union of the Blind and Centre for Disability Rights Education & Advocacy, DRPI made a submission to this process reporting on the human rights situation of persons with disabilities in Kenya. The submission was based on data collected by disability rights monitors in the DRPI Kenya project. These monitors collected and analyzed national legislation, programs, policy and case law on disability. They also conducted and analyzed 95 face-to-face interviews with persons with a range of impairments in three regions of the country: Rift Valley, Nairobi and Nyanza.
