  • November 30, 2013:

    A new report by the Health Council of Canada says that governments must make a greater effort to collaborate to improve health care for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis seniors. The report - Canada's most vulnerable: Improving health care for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis seniors, shows they often do not receive the same level of health care as non-Aboriginal Canadians because of poor communication, collaboration, and disputes between governments about who is responsible for the care of Aboriginal people.

  • November 18, 2013:

    The efforts of a Winnipeg woman to help Aboriginal people with disabilities access training, education and employment were officially recognized at an awards ceremony held Oct. 13.
    Frances Sinclair was one of seven recipients of Manitoba Access Achievement Awards, sponsored by the Province of Manitoba and the Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities.

  • February 6, 2013:

    A new project entitled Disability and Rights for Citizens (DRC) aims to provide human rights workshops designed to educate people with disabilities about the CRPD.

  • December 12, 2012:

    Expanding the Circle: Aboriginal People with Disabilities Focus on Rights is a three-year research partnership, funded by SSHRC, which seeks to realize critical social improvements in the lives of Aboriginal people with disabilities by advancing responsive practices in disability rights monitoring directed by Aboriginal communities.

  • August 28, 2012:

    We are pleased to announce an article in the Journal of Human Development, Disability and Social Change entitled, 'Droits humains et personnes ayant des incapacités: analyse comparative de l'utilisation des services de soutien en contexte ontarian et québécois' (2011), a collaborative article written by a number of DRPI people and others.

  • July 3, 2012:

    Long time friend and supporter of DRPI, Ray Cohen (Founder of the Canadian Abilities Foundation and publisher and editor-in-chief of Abilities) was presented with a Queen Elizabeth II  Diamond Jubilee medal. The medal serves to honour the contributions and achievements made by Canadians from all sectors of society. Congratulations Ray!

  • October 18, 2011:

    DRPI Canada and the BC Coalition of People with Disabilities co-facilitate a research launch for DRPI Canada's Vancouver chapter.

  • June 6, 2011:

    The report on the individual monitoring activities and findings from DRPI Canada's monitoring site in Québec will be presented on June 6th. This event is part of regional activities organized for Disability Week in Québec. View the invitation for the June 6th presentation on individual monitoring in Québec for more information on this event. There are also other events organized for Disability week in Quebec.

    Co-leaders of D.R.P.I. Canada conducted a panel presentation at the C.D.S.A. - A.C.E.I. Annual Conference held at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
