Canada is scheduled for review by the United Nations Human Rights Council under the new Universal Periodic Review (U.P.R.) procedure at the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva. This will be the first time Canada has been reviewed under the U.P.R. Procedure. The U.P.R. covers all aspects of international human rights, including all treaties ratified by Canada and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The U.P.R. process requires that Canada engage constructively and make some commitments in relation to documented shortcomings. Fifty N.G.O. stakeholders, as well as the Canadian Human Rights Commission, submitted briefs in relation to Canada's review at the beginning of September. These have been posted at the U.N.H.C.H.R. website. Other documentation is available on the special website for Canada's U.P.R.
