  • June 10, 2008:

    Unfortunately, Mirlande Demers, a Quebec-based disability rights monitor for D.R.P.I. Canada died suddenly last June. Mirlande was an activist convinced of the importance of respecting human rights. Despite her young age (27 years), she had been involved in many struggles against discrimination based on race, gender and disability in Canada. D.R.P.I. Canada wishes to acknowledge Mirlande's contribution to the project and to the defence of the rights of people with disabilities.

Mirlande était une militante convaincue de l'importance du respect des droits humains. En dépit de son jeune âge (27 ans), elle a été de nombreux combats contre la discrimination basée sur la race, le sexe et le handicap au Canada. D.R.P.I. Canada tient à souligner la contribution de Mirlande au projet mais aussi à la défense des droits des personnes ayant des incapacités.

  • May 10, 2008:

    On May 6th and 7th, 2008, D.R.P.I. Canada held its annual project meeting at York University in Toronto, bringing together members of the disability community and academics from across the country.

  • March 10, 2008:

    Seema Shah, a law student involved with Monitoring Law and Policy Theme of D.R.P.I. Canada, has been selected to receive the 2007 McCarthy Tétrault / W.L.A.O. Community Contribution Award. The award is given annually to a female law student who has made a significant contribution to the advancement of women studying law and who has been actively involved in, and committed to, her community. The award be presented to Seema at the W.L.A.O. Celebrate Community Service Dinner on March 4 at Toronto's Metropolitan Hotel. We heartily congratulate her on this latest award recognizing her contribution to the advancement of women and service to society.

  • November 30, 2007:

    D.R.P.I. Canada hosted a six-day training seminar for disability rights monitors and site coordinators at York University in Toronto this month.

  • November 28, 2007:

    D.R.P.I. Canada hosted a six-day seminar to train people from the disability communities of Toronto and Quebec City to monitor the individual human rights experiences of people with disabilities in their cities. The information gathered through monitoring will be used to inform policy and program changes to redress discrimination and achieve equality for people with disabilities in Canada.   • May 3, 2007:
