    The international academic journal Disability and the Global South (DGS) is delighted to announce the new Voices from the Field section.

  • February 17, 2014:

    Vancouver City Council refused to approve one of the largest developments in the history of Vancouver on principle because it violated the rights of people with disabilities, and Council then insisted that the redevelopment be properly changed to meet the disability community’s concerns before it could be approved.

  • February 12, 2014:

    Call for papers - European Society for Disability Research welcomes abstracts for the Third Annual Conference that will be held in Lisbon, July 2-4th 2014. The 2014 conference theme - Exploring Disability- Epistemologies, Policies and Politics - invites papers that engage with theoretical or empirical research and reflect critical and cutting-edge work on disability studies across a broad range of topics.

    The struggle for rights has been a very pressing issue for people with disabilities throughout the world. At DRPI we are glad to pay our part in monitoring rights in every region of the world and want to celebrate the successes that people with disabilities have achieved in the past year.     It is with deep sadness that we share with you the news that our longtime colleague and friend Adrienne Asch died yesterday morning, 11/19/13, from an aggressive form of cancer.In life, she was recognized as an inspiration within the disability movement and she had many loving friends, colleagues and family members.
    Her work on bio-ethics and disability will continue to influence the field of Critical Disability Studies and her clear and insightful thinking around prenatal testing and disability rights was seminal in moving the rights agenda forward.

    We will miss her thoughtful work and her contribution to the debates and discussions.

    The disability movement calls for an inclusive sustainable development. Vilnius, 16-17 November 2013 | The disability movement met this weekend in Vilnius, Lithuania gathering together representatives of its member organisations all around Europe, as well as representatives of the Lithuanian Republic and European institutions. On the first day of the Board meeting, a European conference took place focusing on: Disability and sustainable development - A perspective from the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
